Sony TVs Get Firmware Update, Nothing New

Sony recently posted a bulletin on their UK support page stating that their 2015 and 2016 Android TV models are getting a firmware update. It has been happening for the past week.

Their bulletin is very brief, giving very broad details about what’s changed:

This new firmware will further enhance the TV’s performance, while offering the following additional functionalities:

* General Android update
* Improved user experience for Infrared (IR) and Bluetooth remote control(s)

By “General Android update”, it probably doesn’t mean a major update to the operating system like from Lollipop to Marshmallow. Rather, it’s more likely to have incorporated some of the more crucial security bugs that have been patched in Google’s monthly patches.

There also seem to be improvements to the remote control, although it’s not clear what changes were made and what problems they fixed in that area either.
