Bang & Olufsen Announces BeoVision 14: A New Android TV

Bang & Olufsen, a company best known for their high-quality speakers, has also tinkered with other areas of technology. They previously made a watchface for Android Wear, and now they’re announcing a new product that also incorporates Android.

The BeoVision 14 is their new UHD TV which runs Android TV. It looks really nice, and also sounds really nice. Their TV integrates with the company’s wireless speaker network seamlessly. Plus, the speakers also play a big part in the hardware itself, as apparent in the photos.

Another nifty feature is automatically adjusting the picture quality based on the room’s ambient light. That way you won’t have to squint when you’re watching a movie late at night in the dark.

They’re taking design seriously for an industry which has been focusing on minimalism and being generic. Many companies produce flat screens that aren’t too dissimilar from each other. However, the BeoVision 14 has wooden panels along the bottom, giving it a distinct flair.

On the software side, it runs Android TV, which includes the many apps that are available in the Google Play Store. An article by TechRadar mentions it will have Netflix and Amazon Prime, although it’s not clear whether they mean by sideloading the app or through built-in support.

When can you get it? Right now the BeoVision 14 currently only available in Europe. The two variants – 40 inch and 55 inch – will be available for $6700 and $9300 respectively, which is fairly high. The company is planning to release it in the US as well.
