[Update: Now Ready] Mi Box Live At Mi.com But No Buy Button

The Mi Box, a new Android TV set-top box (STB) built by Xiaomi has been heavily anticipated since it was announced in May at Google I/O. Although there were some individuals who reported the device arrived early at their Wal-Mart, the device was still officially unavailable for purchase.

However, Xiaomi officially confirmed today in a press release that the device is available for purchase online, as well as being physically stocked in Wal-Marts in the US.

NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Leading consumer technology company Xiaomi announced today that it is bringing Mi Box — its 4K Ultra HD streaming media player powered by Google’s Android TV — to the U.S. market for $69. Mi Box will be available on Mi.com starting today at 12 p.m. ET, and in Walmart stores as well as Walmart.com in early October.

The company’s website has also added an elegant landing page showing all of the features of the Mi Box as well as confirming the $69 price tag.

In the image above, taken from the website’s homepage, we can see the button says that we can buy it immediately (with shipping not happening until the end of the week). Yet when we click on the button, we just arrive at the Mi Box landing page with no option to buy now. Redditor StickWithTheScholars has found a workaround by using the link to directly add to cart.

Yet there is likely some logistical reason why you cannot buy now. The Wal-Mart website is also not showing the product as available.

During the writing of this article, the homepage has changed the “Buy Now” button to “Learn More”. It’s not entirely clear why this has changed, although it’ll likely be cleared up in the next few hours. Wal-Mart should be getting it by the end of the week officially, although it is currently marked as “Do Not Sell”.

The Mi Box supports 4K HDR video in 60 FPS and comes with a number of coupons for various services while running stock Android TV. Are you planning on getting one? Let us know in the comments below.

Update: After a short delay, the link on their homepage has been updated to “Buy Now” and will update your cart. Have fun!
