NVIDIA’s SHIELD TV 3.3 Experience Has Landed

Today SHIELD owners get a bit of an upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3 SHIELD Experience. Now what’s in a .1 increase like this? A few things that lay the ground for some things, more on that in a little while.

Plex additions are the following. If you have some fancy speakers please do let me know how it is, because unfortunately, I don’t have the hardware.

  • DTS:X Audio: Experience immersive, lifelike audio with DTS:X pass-through in Plex, Kodi v17, and MX Player
  • Adds Dolby Atmos audio pass-through support in Plex

First in enhancements we have the latest security patches which is always good as Nick told us before how bad things could hypothetically get. This is always reassuring showing NVIDIA as an OEM is putting security first. Second on the list on enhancements is Support for Vulkan’s 1.0.1.0 Conformance Test Suite, which ELI5 for this is more Vulkan support.

Next up we have Apps and Games optimizations so bug fixes and performance improvements for Shield Games and GeForce Now games too. So if any bugs were squashed that you had before let us know so we can really say that things were optimized.

Remember our Disney announcements? NVIDIA wants to remind you that 5 new apps are here covering most of their catalog. So nothing too new, but hey if you didn’t know now you do! If you were a preview member then you have this already but if not it should be rolling out today and if not today over the next few days.

I missed where you said it is in beta. Version 3.3 is still in beta and not publicly available.
