HDHomeRun Gains Playback Controls in App, “Not Yet” in Live Channels

The HDHomeRun app has been a great way for users to use these network tuners to stream live TV to their Android TV. It also supports Live Channels, merging TV networks and Internet channels into a single interface. SiliconDust, the company behind the product, has just released a new update to give users playback controls.

Streaming Live TV is great, but many users will want to pause or rewind in order to follow along at their own pace. This is not technically as easy as streaming because there needs to be some sort of internal buffer which captures media instead of just passing data in and out. Now users in the app will be able to stream and control playback to give them a richer experience.

You may notice this doesn’t work if you’re using the Live Channels app. That may change soon though. Nick from SiliconDust mentioned in the forums:

HDHomeRun app for Android now supports live TV pause/seek features.
Not yet for Android Live Channels .

This does not enable recording right now, but SiliconDust seems to continue to commit to improving the TV experience for everyone through their network tuners and software, and integration with Live Channels seems like it’ll continually improve.
