Last week, HBO Now launched on Android TV. However, many users were confused that the app only seemed to work on some Android TV devices, specifically Sony TVs.
Senior program manager Sascha Prüter commented on an Android Police article:
Guys, this is just a timed rollout, give it some time.
If you have a Sony or Sharp Android TV, you can now watch great content from HBO NOW. Support for additional Android TV devices is coming soon.
Developers can choose which devices they’d like to release content on, depending on business and technical goals that they might have. We’re working closely with HBO Now to launch their app across the Android TV platform in the near future.
This is no hidden “exclusive” or anything, it just takes time to validate all devices.
It seems like HBO has currently not added support for any of the Android TV set-top boxes (STBs) yet. In the meantime, if you’re itching to watch HBO Now on the big screen immediately, you should be able to download the app from APKMirror and install it on any of your Android TV devices. Just note that your results may vary as your device is currently unsupported.
