Google last year launched a small new feature called Smart Lock. It is a password manager tied to your Google account and integrated into apps. This means that an app can use your Google account to automatically authenticate you. Not only does this save time logging into one device, it saves time logging into every device you own. With phones, tablets, and now TVs, setting up new devices can be a massive time sink.
Netflix has updated their TV app with Smart Lock, something that’s been built into the phone and tablet apps for some time. Now when you start the app, you should see a message saying you’ve been logged in with your Google account.

This kind of feature is especially important on TVs, where password input has to be done with a DPAD and in public. Hopefully this update is just one of many which adds more Android TV features.
