Comcast Has Xfinity App Running on Shield TV

As Xfinity TV Partner Program.

The gist of this program is that instead of getting a cable box from Comcast to watch their content, you can just login to an app on your smart TV or set-top box and watch live content. At this expo, one of the devices running the app was the NVIDIA Shield TV.

NVIDIA confirmed they are working with Comcast on this app, but have nothing to announce.

This would be great for users who don’t want to use a second unwieldy box for watching content, and it is beneficial for Comcast. The FCC has been pushing for third-parties to build cable box replacements. Comcast is arguing against this by pointing out the widespread use of apps to watch live TV. By having as many users as possible on board without a cable box, it can make the FCC’s rules seem antiquated.

Comcast’s partnership program is still pretty new, so it may take a few months before more news forms.
