[Pro-Tip] Change your Android TV Name

Have you ever opened up the Google Cast menu and been confused by the names? If you have two Nexus Players, they may both identify with that name, leading to uncertainty about where your video will be casted.

It may make more sense to rename one or both devices so you have a more contextual understanding of where the video will be played. If you can cast to “Living Room” instead of “Nexus Player”, you’ll know exactly what that means.

You can easily change your device name to disambiguate the Google Cast devices in your home. Go to the About section in Settings and select Device Name. You can see this in the video below.

From this settings menu, you are able to select from one of many preset options or add a custom name.

As more devices become connected, you will need to know how to differentiate from them. This pro-tip should help users differentiate from the numerous Smart TVs in their home.
