Jen-Hsun Huang said it best, “our customers love SHIELD ever since its release” and I have to agree with that I do love it. So naturally a 2nd gen only makes sense. Today is that day and I have to say I wished for a lot of these things but they really kept the leaks tight and impressed me with all that it can do. What we know about the new SHIELD TV now is the leaks showed it has been revamped looks wise and a new controller, it’s the first STB with 4K HDR support for both Amazon and Netflix. No announcement of a new processor but I’m sure specs will be detailed soon and as you can see in the title image a blue title and yes it’s Steam. Previously if you wanted 4k HDR you had to have a TV/Xbox One S so PC gamers missed out no matter how good the monitor. Now with this new Steam app you can stream your PC games to your SHIELD with 4k HDR support.
Now if you thought the SHIELD TV can’t get any better I’d say you’re wrong. NVIDIA dropped a new accessory on us called the NVIDIA Spot which is an out of the way about the size of your palm AI that pairs with the SHIELD TV and makes the SHIELD the world’s most powerful AI Home assistant powered by Google Assistant. As we learn more this article will be updated, more on this soon.
Pre orders start at $199 and the SHIELD TV comes out according to Amazon January 16th. SHIELD Pro will be available later this month with controller, remote with headset jack and 500GB of storage. A separate version of SHIELD, with custom software optimized for China, will be available later this year. The NVIDIA SPOT mic accessory for SHIELD will sell for $49.99.
