Mi Box Update – Security Patches & Better USB Support

Owners of the Mi Box are being notified of a small update to their devices. The 557 MB patch will contains a “DRM patch with Netflix and CTS security patch”. The CTS refers to the Compatibility Test Suite, a series of tests which are run on Android devices to verify that common functions work as intended.

The security patch in this update appears to from October, which is a bit disappointing to those who are now three months ahead. Nougat was released publicly in August, although security patches are often published for several OSs so any OEM can quickly incorporate those.

Users on Reddit also seem to mention issues with USB storage have been fixed with this update, a bit of a belated fix to whatever firmware the Mi Box runs.

Hopefully, Xiaomi can continue to work to have a very good quality, inexpensive set-top box that runs the latest software and works really well.
