Sony may soon upgrade their TVs to Nougat

Sony has been incorporating Android TV into their TV sets since 2015, although they haven’t been too quick with their software updates. It does seem like owners of Sony TVs will be receiving Nougat pretty soon, according to a new help article posted on their website.

Your Android TV software version is scheduled to receive a major update. The update is scheduled to begin after 05/2017.

The page discusses many changes which are part of Nougat: picture-in-picture, the new Recents screen, and a revamp to the settings menu. There are also many specific changes for Sony TVs.

One example is the addition of voice search in the Opera Browser that comes with their TVs. The racing game Asphalt Nitro also seems to be included by default.

One feature being removed in this update is the Gameloft hub. It seems to be discontinued, although the games downloaded from it will still be available to access from the launcher itself.

Will your Sony TV receive the update? It applies only to “KD-**S8000D/**X8000D/** X8300D /**X7500D/**X7000D/**Z9D” models. Let us know in the comments below if you see an update.
