Tonight – Learn about Android TV’s New UX

Android TV is getting a big update this year along with Android O. There will be the Google Assistant along with an entirely new launcher. You can take a look at both in this CNET interview with the Android TV lead.

You can see the launcher seems to be completely revamped with inline videos. As you highlight over a certain item, a video can start playing and the background transitions to new colors based on the thumbnail. These videos come from different sources, like Netflix, and provides a much faster way of accessing content. It will be coming with Android O.

How will developers take advantage of it, and how does it change the way Android TV works for users? We’re not entirely sure yet, but we should be getting a good idea at tonight’s I/O session, “What’s New in Android TV“. It’s at 6PM PST (9PM EST)
