YouTube for Shield TV Gets 360 Video

Today NVIDIA announced an update all SHIELD TV owners should know about. That is that YouTube 360 degrees is here today as promised many months ago at CES 2017.

The first thing you’ll see is the streamlined UI on the sidebar. Removing channel subscriptions so if you’ve got what seems like an endless list like I do then it’s become a lot cleaner. At the very top is the signed in profile so it’s clear who’s logged in.

Additionally, the top of the Home screen now displays a row of areas of interest. There you’ll find your individual recommendations as well YouTube Red Original programming. Following those you’ll be presented with broader topics like Gaming, Food, and Beauty.

You’ll see alot of YouTube.com/tv here as was previously mentioned in a post a week back, but 360 video is the main thing here.

You should see these changes rolling out over the next few days and if you haven’t picked up a SHIELD TV, pick one up today.

Only for the shield? What about the Mi Box or other Android TV devices?

The Youtube “update” for Shield Tv is a massive joke. SOOOOO many problems that at the official Nvidia Tv forums, the thread is afull of complaints. I strongly advise anyone to NOT update the app. If they have, by mistake, then go to “settings/apps” and then scroll all the way to the end of the list and then select “youtube” then “uninstall updates”. Then turn off “auto aupdates” in the official Shield TV version of Google Play if you have that on…

That way, you can go back the original and actually functional version.
