Google Assistant Is Now Built-in To Sony’s Android TVs

Attention all Sony TV owners myself included. You now are no longer second class citizens to SHIELD TV owners because today you get Google Assistant to control your smart home of devices and have it play content faster and more efficient . Today all 2017 TVs and some 2016 models will receive the Google Assistant. Now unlike the SHIELD it’s not hands free but you will have to hit the mic button on your Sony remote as seen in the graphic below.

Google Assistant Sony TV

“Sony’s goal is to provide our customers the Smart Home functionality they desire in the manner they choose. With the Google Assistant, Sony TV owners get all the answers and tasks they need done, just by using their voice,” said Mike Fasulo, President and COO of Sony Electronics. “This software update is available today for those that already own, or plan to buy, a supported Sony 4K HDR television with Android TV – bringing new innovative technologies to our customers.”

Let us know how it is on your Sony TV in the comments below!

Lastly the included model are as followed: XBR-Z9D, XBR-X800D, XBR-X750/X700D, and all 2017 Sony Android TVs.

Is the android tv in this years sony tvs good? Our main tv has an nvidia shield and we will may get a sony tv as our secondary. Will I feel the need to buy another shield, or is the built in android tv good enough? I don’t care about gaming just streaming including kodi.

I have a 2016 model Sony TV as well as a Nvidia Shield and, while the tv is a long way apart in terms of smoothness, it’s easily good enough.
