Xiaomi Mi Box Update – Sling TV Free Trial

Users of Xiaomi’s Mi Box seem to have found a software update waiting. The patch, 500 MB in size, seems to omit any sort of helpful changelog. have found only a single change. Once updated, users will receive a dialog that invites them to a very brief free trial of Sling TV, a cordcutting service that is included on the device.

While a nice surprise for owners, it seems like a rather large patch for just this change. It’s likely that other changes were in the underlying architecture with bug fixes and performance improvements. Perhaps Xiaomi will release a detailed changelog in the coming days.

I can only suggest people steer clear of this box until Xiaomi can issue a clear fix for the Netflix playback issues several people are experiencing. Either that or be in a good position to return yours when netflix doesn’t work.
