CNNgo Will Add Original, Free Shows to App

CNNgo is a way that cable subscribers can continue to watch CNN shows and news on their phones, tablets, and other devices. However, hints at an upcoming change to the service that should attract more users. The CNNgo app will start showing original shows that will be free for anyone to watch, not even with through a subscription. The goal seems to be attracting more users, especially a younger audience.

The show “Mostly Human” should be added on Sunday, March 12, to the app. The show is billed as being Black Mirror but in real life, discussing the growing connectivity people have with the Internet. CNN does not appear to have any ad deals to run alongside the show according to Variety, so users may be able to watch entirely free. However, if this ends up driving growth to the app, it will help CNN produce more content in the future.

As of January, the service reported 1.3 million monthly users, but growth is expected to rise dramatically with this new cordcutting focus.

Users can download the CNNgo app on their Android TV through the Google Play store.
