SPMC 16.6 Adds “Visibility Behind” and “Now Playing” to Android TV

The SPMC app, a fork of Kodi, has been adding Android TV features on top of the regular Kodi application. The app just received an update to version 16.6 which fixes a number of issues and introduces .

First is the “Now Playing” card that shows up as the first card in your recommendations, like shown in the screenshot above. This shows information about the media and acts as a quick shortcut back into the player. The other feature is “visible behind”, which is what happens when you’re watching a video, hit the home button, and the media continues to play in the background. This feature is also in Live Channels. Having this is a handy way to continue watching content while navigating to another app. If the Android TV Launcher allowed widgets, this would allow users to view widgets briefly before returning to the content.

SPMC can be downloaded on Google Play for free. The source code is available on .
